Hopdoddy Burger Bar opened a new location in River Oaks. The burger bar specializes in craft, specialty made burgers. I stopped by the new location; I visited once on the opening day and then later in the week. During both visits, the line was wrapped around the building. I decided to go back during the week for lunch. I was greeted at the entrance by a friendly staff member. It was hot like always in Houston during the summer. They asked us to wait outside for a moment and provided me and my friends with a menu. At first glance, they had a set up outside for water while guests waited. Hopdoddy Burger Bar even had doggie bowls for patrons visiting with their pets. The wait wasn’t long. I would say about 3 to 4 minutes, which was a surprise compared to what I heard through social media comments.

I was impressed with the menu. Hopdoddy Burger Bar not only has an extensive list of burgers, but they also offers salads and gluten-free bread for the healthy eater. But, for those who want to go all in, you can also try their Green Chili Fries or one of the six specialty shakes they serve. The staff offered us a sample of the Nutella and Chocolate Pretzel Shake….OMG. I didn’t order it for this visit because I didn’t want to go back to work full, but I highly recommend it. It was sweet from the combination of hazelnut and chocolate with a nice crunch.

What I ate:

Hopdoddy burger
The Goodnight/Good Cause Burger comes with beef, Tillamook cheddar, hickory BBQ sauce, caramalized onions, sliced jalapeno, lettuce and tomatoes. According to Hopdoddy, $1 is donated to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Texas every time this burger is ordered.
Hopdoddy fries and queso
Chili Con Queso and Fries

The burger was moist cooked medium well. The burger wasn’t greasy like some chains I’ve tried. The queso was spicy and the peppers drizzled over the fries added a salty flavor.

What I drank:

I wanted a light, refreshing drink, so I tried the Ginger Lemonade. I don’t typically think about Ginger being spicy, but when the waiter brought my drinkĀ  he wanted me to try it while he watched me take my first sip. It hit my throat and suddenly the spice made me grab my water and take a big gulp, but once I took another sip, I was delighted. I recommend you try it, and share your feedback in the comment section and let me know what you think.

You can glance at the rest of the drink menu below. I will visit Hopdoddy again. The food was great. The service was great. Overall, it was a great experience.
