My 10-Day Green Smoothie Cleanse Experience

My 10-Day Green Smoothie Cleanse Experience

I never knew a green smoothie would give me clarity. The 10-Day Green Smoothie Cleanse by JJ Smith helped me get my body back on track. I found myself feeling like I needed to detox my body of all the toxins I had stored at the end of 2017. I had a food allergy and even with the help of an allergist, I couldn’t figure out what was making me break out. My skin, which is usually pretty clear, was acting up. My friend recommended a detox program she had been doing off and on for the last three months. I kept putting it off because my job as a food blogger is to go out, experience new places, and come back to share them with you. How in the world would I manage a 10-day green smoothie cleanse?

Green Smoothie Drink

I finally decided to bite the bullet. The first step in preparing for my green smoothie detox required me to purchase a book by author and nutritionist JJ. Smith. You may have seen JJ. Smith on the Rachel Ray Show and Dr. Oz. She’s been helping women lose weight, detox and change their eating habits for years. Her following on Facebook is huge. She also manages a private group with thousands of women sharing their stories daily.

Preparation

The book comes with a list of grocery items you must purchase. I didn’t have a blender, so I had to purchase one. The majority of the list is green vegetables like kale, spring mix, and spinach. The fruit includes green apples, mangos, peaches, strawberries, bananas, pineapple, and mixed berries. She allows some additional items like raw vegan protein powder, chia seeds, flax seeds and Stevia. The plan comes with two options. You can choose the full throttle or the modified. The full throttle consists of three smoothies to replace each meal and snacks. JJ limits your snacks to clean, fresh foods like carrots, apples (the only fruit you can snack on), almond butter, dry nuts, tuna or protein bars. The modified version allows you to have one meal a day. I chose the modified version. Your meals are limited to chicken breast, salmon, loin steak, scallops, or halibut.

Green Smoothies

JJ speaks highly of green smoothies. She believes that you get more benefits from green smoothies over juicing. I enjoyed the smoothies because every day for 10 days you get a different one. The smoothies tasted good. One of my biggest struggles included getting enough veggies in the day. This detox made it easy for me to get all the good foods my body needed in one drink. She requires you to drink a lot of water. JJ suggest you drink at least half of your body weight. This helps clean out your system during the detox process.

Supplements

JJ encourages you to take supplements. One of which helps to clean out your digestive track and colon. The main supplement she highlights in her book is the Mag 07. Another method she provides includes the salt water cleanse. You take 2, 16 oz glasses of water and put 1 tablespoon of sea salt in each, stir and drink it. Within 30 minutes your bowels will start to move from the water going through and cleaning your colon. I tried the salt water cleanse. The taste isn’t the best. You can add lemon to it in order to get it down. But, it did it’s job.

Detoxing

The first three days my head hurt. I love coffee. I drink coffee every morning. My body couldn’t understand the caffeine withdrawal. I also realized that I was so use to snacking randomly based on emotions. I had to keep drinking water, eating carrots or tuna when it was time to snack. After the first 3 days, my headaches went away. I didn’t crave cheese or carbs. I had no need for sweets/desserts either. By day 5, I was excited to see what new smoothie I would drink for the day.

RXBar
I tried this approved RXBar bar for one of my snacks. I didn’t love the texture or taste.

Results

I lost 6 pounds. This weight loss came from doing the modified version of the cleanse, which was 2 green smoothies and one full meal. My allergy rash that I couldn’t get rid of cleared up. The pores in my skin closed up. And some of the rings under my eyes cleared up. The biggest benefit came when I went to the doctor twice and both times my blood pressure came in perfect. I’ve never been on blood pressure medication, but I’ve had a few doctor’s visits where my pressure was high. This cleanse gave me a balance and helped me get my body and mind back on track. After the detox I decided to replace my breakfast with a smoothie. I get all my vegetables in one or two meals just by drinking a green smoothie.

You will find a few photos of my smoothies over the course of the 10 days.

I’m also adding a smoothie that I created based on all of the ones I tried just to share with you.

Until next time, love, peace and food.
